Recycling of expanded polystyrene

Ever since its creation, expanded polystyrene has been an environmental problem. Because of its structure, it does not decompose, is difficult to recycle and its manipulation and transport are expensive. A high percentage of polystyrene actually ends up either buried in waste dumps where it takes more than a thousand years to disintegrate, or in an incinerator where its combustion releases greenhouse gases. Duval Technologies’ new innovative solution is now available for the recycling and revaluation of expanded polystyrene.
The Duval Technologies
Duval Technologies is developing a revolutionary system that makes possible the safe recycling of expanded polystyrene, at a much lower operational and ecological cost than existing practices. Our procedure comprises two stages. A first transformation dramatically reduces the volume of the expanded polystyrene at the site of its last use, using neither toxic products nor producing greenhouse gases. This structural transformation permits transporting the residual polystyrene economically to the second stage, which consists in transforming the residual polystyrene into new products. The whole procedure eliminates expensive and unnecessary manipulations as well as greenhouse gas emissions during transport and combustion.
Also, our system can handle some adherent foreign materials like cardboard, plastic and even some food particles! So you won’t have to waste time, money and water to clean the EPS before putting it into the recycling process.
Different systems for different needs
Our systems are being conceived to adapt to the companies and organizations needs. Some have to manipulate high volumes of expanded polystyrene, and others just small volumes but wants to dispose of it in a responsible manner.
High volume
Practically autonomous, our system works without having to continually add solvent or needing other manipulations. It will even handle some quantity of foreign particles (ex. cardboard, other plastic, etc.) The maintenance consists essentially in picking up the residue and forwarding it to the treatment and revaluation centre. The frequency of the service is directly linked to the volume of material treated.
Low volume
For those organizations handling only low volumes of expanded polystyrene, we are working on transformation containers for reduction at a slower pace. They contain a solution which melts the pieces of polystyrene as they are added.
Depending on the treated volume, the solution inside the container is replaced at regular intervals and the residue is sent to the treatment and revaluation centre.
